Murdaugh attorneys want judge to reconsider ruling on using 401(k) funds for legal fees

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Attorneys for Alex Murdaugh want a judge to reconsider his order blocking Murdaugh from using retirement funds to pay his legal bills.

Murdaugh attorney Jim Griffin said he doesn't think the judge gave that proposal enough thought before denying it on May 12.

Murdaugh wants to take an additional $160,000 out of his 401(k) to appeal his murder convictions.

He originally took $600,000 of it to pay for his murder trial and turned over the rest to the court.

Court-appointed lawyers in charge of Murdaugh's finances disagree.

Attorneys for the many people Murdaugh stole money from also oppose the request.
