PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A group of students walked out of Grant High School calling for gun control legislation and showing solidarity with other students across the country.

This comes after 19 students and two teachers were shot and killed in a mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas.

The group is calling for stricter background checks when purchasing guns.

“Every time there’s a threat or anything like that at school there are kids who don’t show up because kids are in fear,” said Junior Kian Doughty “We’re training for shooters and we’re not actually stopping these events from happening.”
