FRONT ROYAL, Va. (WJLA) — A small, private plane made an emergency landing along Interstate 66 in Virginia on Saturday morning.
Virginia State Police said they responded to the westbound side of the highway at the six-mile marker in Warren County around 10:43 a.m. EDT.
A preliminary investigation revealed the aircraft suffered engine failure.
The pilot -- and only occupant -- was uninjured.
The landing was a sight to see for drivers along the highway, creating a traffic backup.
Virginia's Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
Spokesman Ken Slack said the Cessna plane came to a stop on the right shoulder. Traffic was moved to the left lane to pass the aircraft.
The plane was later moved to the center crossover.
Slack said there may be an attempt to see if the plane can be prepared to take off again.
Traffic seems to be moving again, except for a slow down as drivers pass the plane.
