SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A woman was arrested in Salt Lake County after allegedly biting off her sister's eye during an altercation.
The suspect, according to the Unified Police Department, was identified as Ashleigh Sunni Mason, 25. Police said the incident occurred on May 27.
The victim, the suspect's sister, was covered in blood dripping from her left eye when police arrived on the scene.
The victim's ex-husband, who reported the event, stated that the suspect had allegedly assaulted the victim.
"A portion of the eye had been torn out from under her eyelid and was outside of her eye," the probable cause statement released.
Police said when paramedics arrived, they informed the victim that she would need to be taken to Intermountain Medical Center since the damage to the victim's eye would require the attention of a plastic surgeon.
"The part of the eye that was ripped out by the suspect's teeth appeared to be the tear duct; however, due to the blood at the aid being provided to the victim, it was difficult to tell," the arresting document said.
According to probable cause documents, Mason fled the residence on foot after the incident.
Police said she was discovered hiding in a yard about a block away.
"Ashleigh was extremely intoxicated and was screaming extremely loud, causing alarm to other residences in the area," Officer Brandon Moore said.
Moore located two bottles of vodka and a can of White Claw.
Mason was arrested on three charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and intoxication.
